In today's case, we all rocked up to see the tip-in and then walked alongside the canal to the race's end point over near Industrial street. The highlight of the day being when the odd small duck makes it past two chaps called Steve and Barry at the finishing line. We enjoyed our walk and our detour to the playground, where George had lots of fun on the slide and Iris had her first go on the roundabout and the swing. Then we headed home for vegan lasagne.

Duck racing, playground and hats...
Duck racing is a spring event that takes place throughout our area. In fact we have wondered for years if they use the same set of ducks and simply move them from event to event. Said event takes the form of tipping - in the case of Todmorden via a JCB digger bucket - a huge pile of numbered ducks into a canal or river and then chasing them downstream to see who finishes first. Each duck is numbered on it's base and the numbers correspond to tickets which can be bought on the market in the days leading up to the event - in our case Lennie and I chose 4 ducks at a grand total of two pounds. I believe the winner is notified by phone - not that I have ever won - but the point is, it helps Todmorden Lions to raise money for things like the Carnival. More of that, later this year.
