Down to the Waterline

We started as we meant to go and as soon as we had arrived and checked in made a beeline straight to the wonderful Wateredge Inn where we had a light lunch and basked in the sunshine while enjoying sitting right on the waterline.

We are sailing...

We finished our first afternoon in the Lakes with a trip on the steamer. We sat outside at the prow of the boat, sunshine glinting off the water and wind whipping through our hair...tranquility incarnate.

Love and death and life

I'm not sure how on earth to write this, but feel I need to move forward and start to post again.

A lot has happened since I last wrote and I can't just pass over it as though nothing has happened.

On June the 9th in the hour just after midnight our beloved darling beautiful cat Fig died suddenly. Our constant companion for ten years, I cannot begin to express the unbearable pain and grief we felt and still feel in losing him. We lost a best friend and family member in one swift blow and were left reeling and in terrible sorrowful shock.

Looking back I'm still not sure how we got through the days immediately following his loss, but Jon and I drew ever closer both literally and emotionally and with help from our dearest best friend G who did the difficult things so we didn't have to, and our other best friend Shaz, who visited all the way from Dubai. We kept going.

His ashes now lie beneath a beautiful sweetly scented red rose tree which we can see from the kitchen window, now in bloom and reminding us that our beautiful little man will always be there with us, and that life goes on.

Jon turned 40 the day we lost him, all plans and any thought of celebration abandoned of course. (I couldn't believe the stupidity of the people who even knowing what had happened asked ''did you do something nice for your birthday though?" CRETINS.) we actually got through the day with some toast, hidden object games and hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.

The terrible silence in the house was, as we always knew it would be, too much to bear and as we had previously discussed in tremulous tone, we must find the strength to give another cat a good home as soon as possible. Which is what we did. Jon found the perfect place in Haworth Cat Rescue and after a phonecall to discuss how we went about visiting and viewing the cats, we agreed to call in.

The rescue centre is tucked away down a steep hill surrounded by fields and is run and managed by a team of incredible volunteers. The cats we saw all seemed so loved and looked after and I could not recommend it more as a place to adopt from or donate to.
No one can or will ever replace Fig, no one will ever be as beautiful or as perfect as Fig, but with space and time and love to give we chose to adopt two adorable kittens, who's Mum had been abandoned pregnant at the gate. They have brought life and laughter back to the house and though we miss our little man everyday, we are so glad to have given these two cheeky little monkeys a good and safe home for life.

Jasper and Boo, brother in paws.

I've cried so much writing this, but it had to be done.
