Haverthwaite and Lakeside Railway

First full morning in the lakes and our first full breakfast at the waterwheel (WOW!) and we decided to take a drive down to 'Lakeside' at the far end of Windermere. We arrived with half an hour to spare and had a drink in the extremely busy cafe overlooking the lake. The view was beautiful, though it did feel a little like we were on a boat(!)
From here we went down to the platform and bought tickets for the Haverthwaite and Lakeside railway, and minutes later we were off...

We then had a brief halt at Haverthwaite before returning back down the track to Lakeside.

  1. How lovely. I've BEEN on that railway. I have very happy memories of summers in the Lakes; so it's wonderful to see your pictures and be reminded.

  2. Thanks Tania. It was such a lovely and much needed break.
It's funny, because I lived there I had never really done any of the touristy things, so it was great to sort of 'go home'+see it through new eyes.
