Thursday - North Norfolk Coast

Spectacular autumn morning at the beach house - cold and bright. We took a trip up the north coast, visiting Cley by the Sea, Salthouse, Blakeney Quay, Burnham Market and Holkham Hall.

The most amazing deli/shop I have ever visited in Cley - called Pinic Fayre. Incredible home-made bread, cakes, local beer, a lovely variety of cheeses, coated nuts in all different spice rubs (I got cashews in dhukka) and the nicest garlic pickle I have ever tasted. Incredible. I wish it was in my village.

Salthouse shingle bank, a place full of people filming things...what things?

Blakeney...loved this place, quiet and pretty, lovely craft shops and a beautiful quayside. I could live here.

Found this place on the road - grove farms  - you could fill a box with apples for a tenner, or a bag for a quid. They had so many varieties of apple, many I hadn't heard of at all, imagine having this on your doorstep? - I'd make so much PIE!

On to Burnham Market, the sweetest and most well kept village i've ever seen. Great deli called Humble Pie and a place called Norfolk Life where we bought a craft heart full of the most heavenly scented norfolk lavender and a silver snowflake christmas decoration.

On the way home now, and sadly out of time to have a proper look round, we called into Holkham Hall, who had dressed their trees with ghosts for halloween - really spooky during the day, terrifying at night I imagine. The Hall has a deer park in it's grounds and we were lucky enough to see some munching away at the grass.

Wednesday - Lowestoft

Today we took a trip down the coast to the south calling into Great Yarmouth for a thermos of coffee and sandwiches while George slept, and then on to Lowestoft, where we played with our kite, marvelled at the crashing waves and then made sandcastles on the beach, oh, and had an incredibly tasty ice cream.

Tuesday - Holt and the Poppyline

Up with the sun thanks to George and today we went to Holt for a trip on the Poppyline to Sheringham and back again on a glorious steam train, then for lunch at the lovely Byfords Deli.
