ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS or Dog Day Afternoon

Jon took these for me yesterday...as you can see George is exploring everything and becoming brilliant at standing and holding/cruising from item to item. Such development, it's amazing to witness.

Having decided to take a break and go to Centre Vale - our local park for an hour Jon also took these for me - which he ''what's app'd'' to my phone so I could see what a nice time they were having.

Unfortunately, almost straight after this was taken, and there is no easy way to write this - George crawled slightly off the mat and ate dog shit.
The stress in the immediate aftermath was HORRENDOUS, Jon RAN with the baby in the pram to the doctor at the other end of town and was seen, thank you to our diligent HV, immediately, unfortunately beyond the obvious washing his mouth out and cleaning him and his clothes, sterilising his dummy and monitoring him closely there was nothing more that could be done and by the time Jon returned home to tell me the news (in my sick bed) George's temperature had already hit 37.8.
The absolute DISGUST and ANGER this has caused both Jon and myself is of the highest level and Jon is currently in contact with the council over the matter - though they are lucky it wasn't the police. We have also threatened a high vis spray paint campaign to mark the areas of fouling if they don't take action. Both of us are HUGE dog lovers - but dog owners have got to take responsibility for their animals and not allow them to foul parks and pavements.

My absolute love and respect to my husband for dealing with such a difficult situation - my heart goes out to you for having to cope with this disgusting incident on what should have been a lovely break in the fresh air.

Today George's temperature has returned to normal after three doses of calpol to reduce his temperature (obviously fighting infection) and a terrified wait for him to start vomiting and develop diarrhoea, which touch wood, he hasn't.
He will not remember a single second of what happened, Jon and I will never forget it.

No better

Weekend

The weekend was quiet and I was made to rest as much as possible, for once I just didn't have the energy to resist. I did some cooking and tidying and playing with George, but Jon did the lion's share. My complete fatigue is evidenced by having taken only a couple of photos.

This from Saturday bathtime - whilst watching Tom Daley dive...

Then this one from Sunday afternoon...

Sunday night as well as being the closing ceremony of the games (rather bizarre and not a patch on Danny Boyle's incredible opening) was a real low point - I got ulcer-related tummy ache and was in the most pain I think i've ever been in. Poor Jon, not only does he have George to look after but he also has to witness me writhing around weeping in agony clutching hot water bottles and tasking fistfuls of Lansoprazole. After the fifth (not to be advised) my insides finally stopped screaming, with the usual after effects and I went to sleep with a sick bowl and an alarm set for 8am - The surgery managed to get me in for 10.20am with a new Doctor and she was brilliant. She listened to everything that had been happening and sent me straight from her room for blood tests - I also have to give in samples and then we reconvene next week. She said I may also need further tests at the hospital (endoscopy) but that we would get to the underlying cause and get it sorted out. As I went to leave, I asked, "It's not normal is it, to be feeling like this? the fever and the exhuastion?" "No, Anne, it's not, something is wrong but we'll get you better"
So in the meantime, I have a huge box of painkillers for the continuous headaches and have been told to rest as much as I can. Jon has done everything possible to allow me that time, especially yesterday which having been to the Doc and the bank (opened George an a/c with Halifax) meant going to bed until tea time. I've never felt so feverish and exhausted. Horrendous.

A grand adventure

Sometimes we have a drive out with no specific destination in mind, Jon calls this the left, right or straight on game, and we just see where the road takes us. In this case, we went up into the hills and turned right when we would usually turn left, we passed the pike, we passed the New Delight and then we turned a lot of different ways and passed the path to Hardcastle craggs and after it a hidden campsite, we went through Widdop and onto the moors, we saw a shepherd calling his dog, then a mile later we saw his dog patiently waiting with two sheep and looking back down the valley we could see the shepherd was now coming, we went past stone outcrops, erratics, drumlins and gulleys; streams and becks and raging torrents all stained brown from the peat and bubbling like coca-cola, we past a circular pillbox with a domed grassy roof, drove through a ford, then another and passed reservoir after reservoir and cloud formations par excellence.
