Happy Halloween!

LOOK out! Look out, boys! Clear the track!
The witches are here! They've all come back!
They hanged them high,--No use! No use!
What cares a witch for a hangman's noose?
They buried them deep, but they would n't lie still,
For cats and witches are hard to kill;
They swore they should n't and would n't die,--
Books said they did, but they lie! they lie!

The vomiting cavalier

Today I puked my way to Chesterfield and held on very tight so as not to puke my way back home.

Oh. I did also have a fabulous wedding dress fitting whilst there.

Many thanks to Liz.....and Mrs Bitey ;) xxx

Best day with besties...

Today we went to the Hall with S and G, and it was a wonderful thing :) In fact, I am still smiling about it. Having our two best friends there with us, in this place we have chosen for our special day was........fantastic!

I love you all.

And finally...............

.................out comes the penicillin

Terrible night's sleep and for once not all the cat's fault. I awoke at an ungodly hour for a Saturday coughing up a lung and with a tremendously painful sore throat. And so to the out of hours doctor we did go..... nice man, prolific teeth, obviously been eating a lot of chalk salads....and the nice man did give me a shit-load (that's a technical term) of penicillin.

I am now hoping for a swift and deadly blow to be dealt to this malingering cough/cold/sore throat-fest. I have things to do, like peel more pickling onions and cook things....and have a bath and wash my hair before I start to smell like a pickling onion.

Fingers crossed for the anti-b's.

The arena of the unwell

So, I started to develop Jon's cold on Tuesday evening, I got that tingly feeling in the roof on my mouth and my throat was sore. By Wednesday morning I was sneezing and blowing my nose and by Wednesday afternoon my nose had turned into a running tap of snotty doom. I hoped, this seemingly being the accelerated version of what J had, that I had hit the apex of things and that today would be better. No dice. Fast-track it may be, but I woke up with a throat like razorblades and now sound a bit like Betty, she of hotpots fame, late of Coronation Street.

Colds really are shit.

Autumn days

Autumn Days

Autumn days, when the grass is jewelled
And the silk inside a chestnut shell
Jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled
All these things I love so well

So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn’t forget.

Clouds that look like familiar faces
And a winter’s moon with frosted rings
Smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces
And the song the milkman sings.

So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn’t forget.

Whipped-up spray that is rainbow-scattered
And a swallow curving in the sky
Shoes so comfy though they’re worn out and they’re battered
And the taste of apple pie.

So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn’t forget.

Scent of gardens when the rain’s been falling
And a minnow darting down a stream
Picked-up engine that’s been stuttering and stalling
And a win for my home team.

So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn’t forget.

Hall and Mash

My dearest one and I went to the Hall for a second taste test and came away gloriously happy having made the decision to opt for sausage and mash. This homely retro fave is - as someone put it - so very us, and we hope everyone will enjoy eating it as much as we did this Sunday.

PS. Yes, that is Jon wearing his 'Penrith Tea Rooms' anniversary t-shirt
